Getting Started
What is Submerse?
Submerse is a collaborative bookmarking application designed to help you save, organize, and actually retain the information you find on the web. Unlike traditional bookmarking tools, Submerse captures the full content of every page you save, ensuring you never lose access to important information.
Creating Your Account
To get started with Submerse, visit the homepage and click "Start 14-day trial." You can sign up using your email address or through Google authentication. No credit card is required for the trial period.
Your Workspace
When you first sign up, Submerse creates a personal workspace for you. This is your private space where all your bookmarks are stored. You can also create team workspaces to collaborate with others.
Saving Bookmarks
Browser Extension
The easiest way to save bookmarks is with our browser extension. Once installed, simply click the Submerse icon in your browser toolbar while on any webpage to save it instantly. The extension captures the full content, not just the URL.
Manual Save
You can also save bookmarks directly from the Submerse app. Click the "Add Bookmark" button in the top navigation, paste a URL, and Submerse will fetch and save the content automatically.
What Gets Saved
When you save a bookmark, Submerse captures:
- Full page content — The complete article or page text, converted to clean Markdown
- Metadata — Title, description, author, and publication date when available
- AI Summary — An automatically generated summary of the key points
- Auto-labels — AI-suggested categories and tags
Organizing Your Bookmarks
Pools
Pools are like smart folders for organizing your bookmarks. Each bookmark can belong to multiple pools, making it easy to categorize content in different ways.
To create a new pool, click the "+" button in the sidebar next to "Pools." Give your pool a name and optional description.
All Bookmarks Pool
Every workspace has a special "All Bookmarks" pool that automatically contains all your saved bookmarks. This is your default view and cannot be deleted.
Adding Bookmarks to Pools
To add a bookmark to a pool, you can:
- Drag and drop the bookmark onto a pool in the sidebar
- Right-click the bookmark and select "Add to Pool"
- Use the pool selector when viewing a bookmark
Auto-Labeling
Submerse uses AI to automatically categorize your bookmarks as they're saved. Labels help you find related content and see patterns in what you save. You can also add custom labels to any bookmark.
Search
Full-Text Search
Unlike traditional bookmarking tools that only search titles and URLs, Submerse searches the full content of every saved page. This means you can find that article about "machine learning optimization" even if those words aren't in the title.
How to Search
Use the search bar at the top of the page or press / to focus it. Type your query and results will appear instantly. Search works across:
- Page titles
- Full page content
- AI-generated summaries
- Labels and tags
- URLs
Reading & Learning
Reader View
Click on any bookmark to open it in Reader View. This displays the saved content in a clean, distraction-free format optimized for reading. The original page content is preserved exactly as it was when you saved it.
AI Summaries
Every bookmark includes an AI-generated summary that captures the key points. This helps you quickly decide what deserves your full attention without re-reading everything you've saved.
Viewing the Original
You can always visit the original webpage by clicking the external link icon next to the bookmark title. However, since Submerse saves the full content, you'll still have access even if the original page goes offline or behind a paywall.
