We are Godspeed Systems LLC, a Limited Liability Company registered in the state of Oregon. We build software and services for day-to-day productivity. Submerse is one of our products/services.
Any "we," "our," or "us" in this policy refers to Godspeed Systems LLC. Any "you" in this policy refers to you, the user (whether a person or a business) of Submerse.
What This Is
This is the Privacy Policy for Submerse, a service that allows you to save and organize bookmarks. If you read the whole thing, you will understand how we collect, use, manage, and protect your information when you use our web application at https://submerse.it and our Chrome Extension (collectively, the "Service")

Information We Collect
1. Personal Information You Provide
When you create an account or use our Service, we collect:
- Account Information: Your name and email address (collected and managed through our authentication provider, Clerk)
- Bookmarks: URLs you save, custom titles, and personal notes you add
- Collections (Pools): Names and descriptions of bookmark collections you create
- Workspace Information: Workspace names and settings for collaboration
2. Automatically Collected Information
Web Application
- Usage Data: Information about how you interact with our Service
- Device Information: Browser type, operating system, and device identifiers
- Preferences: Theme settings, auto-summarization preferences stored locally in your browser
Chrome Extension
The Chrome Extension collects:
- Current Tab Information: Page title, URL, and favicon when you choose to bookmark a page
- Local Cache Data: Temporary bookmark data stored locally in your browser (auto-expires after 10 minutes)

3. Content We Process
When you save a bookmark, we may automatically:
- Web Page Content: Scrape and store the page content in markdown format for the "read-it-later" feature
- Page Metadata: Extract and store the page title from the HTML
- AI-Generated Summaries: If you have auto-summarization enabled, we generate brief summaries of the page content using AI
You can disable automatic summarization at any time in your account settings.
How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information to:
1. Provide and Maintain the Service
- Store and organize your bookmarks
- Sync your data across devices
- Enable collaboration features (workspace and pool sharing)
2. Enhance User Experience
- Generate AI summaries of bookmarked pages (if enabled)
- Provide full-text search across your bookmarks
- Remember your preferences and settings
3. Communication
- Send email notifications when someone shares a pool with you
- Send service-related announcements (rare and important only)
4. Service Improvement
- Analyze usage patterns to improve features
- Debug and resolve technical issues

Purpose: AI-powered page summarization using Claude
Data Shared: Page content (up to 8,000 characters)
When Used: Only if auto-summarization is enabled in your settings

Purpose: Transactional email delivery and newsletter delivery
Data Shared: Email addresses and user's first name
When Used: Various notification-worthy actions are performed (for example, sharing a pool with someone)

Data Storage and Security
Storage Location
- Your data is stored securely in Convex's cloud infrastructure
- Local browser storage (localStorage and chrome.storage) is used for temporary caching and preferences only
Security Measures
We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
- Secure authentication tokens
- Minimal permission requirements for the Chrome Extension
Data Retention
- Active account data is retained as long as your account remains active
- Trashed bookmarks are permanently deleted after 30 days
- You can request complete account deletion at any time
Your Data Rights
You have the following rights regarding your data:
Access and Control
- View Your Data: Access all your bookmarks, pools, and account information through the Service
- Export Your Data: Request a copy of your data in a portable format
- Delete Your Data: Delete individual bookmarks, pools, or your entire account
- Modify Your Data: Edit or update your bookmarks, notes, and account information at any time
Privacy Controls
- Disable AI Summarization: Turn off automatic page summarization in Settings
- Private Pools: Create private bookmark collections visible only to you
- Sharing Controls: Control who can access your shared pools
Account Deletion
To delete your account and all associated data:
- Go to Settings in the web application
- Click "Delete Account"
- Confirm deletion
Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. All your bookmarks, pools, and associated data will be permanently deleted.
Chrome Extension Privacy
Regarding the Submerse Chrome Extension:
What It Accesses
- Only accesses the current tab's title and URL when you click the extension icon
- Requires authentication through the main web application
- Cannot be used without an active Submerse account
What It Stores
- Temporarily caches bookmark data locally in your browser (expires after 10 minutes)
- Stores authentication tokens securely via Clerk
- Stores your last-used workspace preference
What It Does NOT Do
- Does not track your browsing history
- Does not access or read page content unless you explicitly save a bookmark
- Does not collect data from inactive or background tabs
- Does not share data with third parties except as necessary to save bookmarks (as described in this policy)
